Henry Colvin b.c.1789 Age / birth year of Henry Colvin. The 1789 year of birth of Henry Colvin is estimated but based on some good evidence. A statistical analysis of Census data from 1810 through 1860 indicates a year of birth not later than 1790 with the most probable being 1789 or 1790. The 1860 age given of 63 is inconsistant with all other years and is considered to be an anomoly. Since Henry was still working he probably did not want to give his correct age. Available census and other data from pension and death records proves that the Rappahannock Court Document of 1857 naming 11 children of Mason Colvin is in cronological order from oldest to youngest. Benjamin Colvin, the 3rd on the list was in the war of 1812 and on his pension application in 1871 (OWIC 7918) stated his age as 77. This would make his year of birth as 1794. Both Nancy and Henry were older than this so this rules out the 1860 census information. Henry married in 1812 and was of age as parental permission was not required of him. He was at least 21 at that time. The 1850 age of 65 is also suspect since it is slightly outside the ranges stated from 1810 to 1840. Therefore, census analysis places the date at 1789 or 1790 and analysis of the ages of the other children of Mason Colvin, the brothers and sisters of Henry, places his birth year at least 2 years before the 1794 date when Benjamin was born. Henry was born circa 1789 at Culpeper Co, Virginia, USA. He was the son of Mason Colvin and Elizabeth Hawkins. He married Rosetta Smith on 22 February 1812 at Madison Co., Virginia.1 They was listed as a beneficiary in Mason Colvin's will on 9 March 1857 at Rappahannock Co, Va. Rappahannock Co, Virginia Minute Book G.. page 88 (March Court 1856 - October Court 1862) At a Quarterly Court held for Rappahannock Co, at the Court House of Said County, on Monday the 9' day of March 1857. Present: John S. Turner, Robert Deatherage, John Brown & B.J. Holland and Robert Eastham. Gent. Justices. The Court doth certify that satisfactory evidence has been exhibited that Mason Colvin was a Revolutionary Pensioner of the United States at the rate of $36.66 per annum, that he was a resident of the County of Rappahannock in the State of Virginia and died in the said County in the year 1853, on the 23rd day of January, that he left no widow, and that he left eleven children, whose names are Henry Colvin, Nancy Colvin, Benj. Colvin, John Colvin, Mason Colvin, Patsey Colvin, Nathaniel Colvin, Lucy Colvin, James M. Colvin and Howard Colvin..2 Henry died after 1860 at Madison Co., Virginia, at age at an unknown age . 3. |
