Notes for Jemina Skidmore d.c. 1786 Jemina Skidmore appears in the Overwharton Parish register as the mother of William Skidmore prior to her marriage to Joseph Southard. No father given. There may have been other children as well. The Will of Jemina Skidmore filed in Stafford Co, Virginia dated 13 Mar 1786 says "now living in Stafford Co" which indicates she may have been living somewhere else prior to this time. Probably with her husband Joseph until he deceased then moved back with her son William Skidmore. Notes for Moses Southard b.1753 Census The census records of Madison Co, Virginia list Moses Southard from 1810 through 1830. There is no evidence of a wife in these records but for the most part, the known children can be identified. There are some inconsistancies in the ages in some cases due to the census enumerator stroking the wrong box. ********** The US Census 1810, Madison Co, Virginia lists 7 individuals in the household of Moses Southard. They are believed to be as follows. 2 males under 10; Elias abt 10; Isaac abt 8 1 male of 16 and under 26; Lewis abt 22 1 male of 45 and upwards; Moses abt 57 2 females of 10 and under 16; Jenny abt 4 (miscounted); Sarah abt 14; 1 female of 16 and under 26; Lucy abt 16 Susan and Betsy both married in 1803 so the count of 6 remaining children appears to be correct. ********** The US Census 1820, Madison Co, Virginia lists 6 individuals in the household of Moses Southard. They are believed to be as follows. 2 males of 10 and under 16; Elias abt 20 (miscounted); Isaac abt 18; (miscounted) 1 male of 45 and upwards; Moses abt 67 2 females of 10 and under 16; Jenny abt 14; 1 unknown 1 female of 26 and under 45; Sarah abt 26 Between 1810 and 1820 Lucy and Lewis both married and are both enumerated separatly with their respective families. The 1 female 10 to 16 is a mystery but I do not believe she was a child of Moses. Possibly a cousin. ********** The US Census 1830, Madison Co, Virginia lists 4 individuals in the household of Moses Southard. They are believed to be as follows. 1 male of 20 and under 30; Isaac abt 28 1 male of 70 and under 80; Moses abt 77 2 females of 15 and under 20: Sarah abt 34 (miscounted); Jenny abt 24 (miscounted); Between 1820 and 1830 Elias married and is enumerated separately with his family. Moses was born on 28 May 1753 at Stafford Co, Virginia.2 He was the son of Joseph Suddarth and Jemina Skidmore. Barbara Herrmann was born in Niederschopfheim, Baden, Germany in 1829, the last of 4 children of Andreas Herrmann and Genoveve Glatz. The 1870 Census lists Barbara Houser as a widow with 7 children with the youngest 2, name not legible. Notes for John P. Robinson b.1829 There is a copy of his obituary in his file that gives some historical information regarding his father and mother's ancestoral ties to Lord Carroll who immigrated from Ireland (and was the father of a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Charles Carroll.) John Robinson and his family appear in the Pennsylvania Census of 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910. There are some age discrepancies but the 1900 and 1910 seem to be most correct. Age given as 70 in 1900 and 80 in 1910. He died at 82 in 1910 according to obituary so birth year of 1829 is probably correct although a range of 1825 to 1829 is possible.
